Call to Dad
May. 26th, 2003 09:08 pmSo I called my dad today.
Told him that I got another loan for school, so he wouldn't have to worry about sending me money. He asked about the hair, wanted to know what color it would be when I got home. Told him I didn't know.
I asked him what he thought about me getting a motorcycle. He asked me if I had totally flipped it :-p Described the traffic in Phoenix (he lived here for 6 months about a year and a half ago) as that of animals behind the wheel. He would rather buy me a car than have be buy a bike. So I think I'll go ahead and put that plan on hold. I wasn't looking for permission from him, I'm a big boy, I can make decisions on my own, but I trust him to give me advice on what he thinks might be the best.
Told him about my laptop. He said it was cool I was able to get one for so cheap, asked me how long he thought it would be before I lost it :-p Didn't mention the dream.
I talked with his Dyana's granddaughter (she and my dad have custody of her), Maleah, for a little bit. I think she's either 4 or 5 now. We talked for a little bit. She wanted to know when I was coming home. I told her a little less than a month. She had me call Dyana a "silly goose" for some reason.
So my dad's cancer is back. He was scheduled to have a gamma knife ray surgery last Friday. However, last Thursday, he got a call from the hospital. His insurance company was refusing to pay for the treatment. The hospitol has no idea why they were refusing, they have never done anything like that before, so he wasn't able to get the operation, considering he didn't have $40,000 in his pocket. He's going to call some doctors and the insurance company tomorrow to find out why they wouldn't let him have the operation, and if there is any way he can get it. I'm starting to worry. Without this, there isn't any way to stop the cancer. I wish there was something I could do ...
We talked a bit more. My older brother Jason was back in Job-Corps. He said Dyana has been spending night and day on her computer. I could hear her yell in the background "No I'm not!" hehehe. She's so cool. My dad dislikes computers. He's never thought they were going to go anywhere. A total technophobe.
He said we would work out who was going to take me from and to Portland next month. I asked him if it would be all right if when I went back to Portland, I went a few hours earlier, so I could meet up with a friend I've known online there (Hallah). I think he sort of misinterpreted me. He said something about bringing me down the day before and I could stay the night. Hmm, interesting. Didn't mention she was 30. I think I could have played with it rather well had I been feeling a little more cruel.
Said my good-byes to him, Dyana, and Maleah. I really should call more often.

Date: 2003-05-26 10:14 pm (UTC)I would advise against the motorbike as well. We have this saying here (in Chinese), that with a car it's metal wrapped around body, with a bike, it's body wrapped around metal -- which is a safer bet hmmm? Hmmm?? :p
And yes, you should definitely call more often :)
